The European Space Agency (ESA) has released the first photos taken by the Euclid Space Telescope.

First photos captured by Euclid Telescope released

Photos of galaxies thousands of light-years away, captured by the Euclid Space Telescope, have been shared on the ESA website.

The galaxies in the Euclid photos, which the ESA describes by stating, "No other telescope has ever been able to capture such a large part of the deep universe with such razor-sharp clarity," had previously been imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope.

240 MILLION LIGHT-YEARS AWAY

One of the images contains 100,000 galaxies billions of light-years away in the background of a group photo of 1,000 galaxies located 240 million light-years away.

Scientists stated that compared to the photos sent to Earth from the telescope 4 months ago, the galaxies in question appeared too faint to be distinguished in previously obtained images.

Another photo reveals the star formation of another galaxy, whose center was observed by the Hubble Space Telescope and which is located relatively close to the Milky Way.

Euclid also took a photo of the Horsehead Nebula, the birthplace of young stars in the Orion constellation, which Hubble had previously imaged.

With the Euclid Space Telescope, the ESA aims to create the largest three-dimensional map of space to date and to discover evidence that will shed light on the concepts of "dark matter" and "dark energy," which make up approximately 95 percent of the universe.

The Euclid Space Telescope was launched on July 1 from the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in the US state of Florida.
