Many operations, from shopping to banking, and from healthcare services to business management, are conducted through these devices. However, malicious applications that users download without realizing can access locations, messages, documents, and passwords. Moreover, these attacks often occur silently. Emphasizing that user habits must be reviewed alongside technical measures, Alev Akkoyunlu shares 10 effective ways to protect mobile devices.

1. Start with strong authentication.

If mobile devices are protected only by a screen lock or a simple PIN, this is an insufficient security measure. Especially if your device is lost or stolen, a weak password can be easily cracked. To reduce this risk, use a password on your device that is at least 12 characters long, consisting of uppercase/lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols that are difficult to guess. Furthermore, make sure to activate multi-factor authentication (MFA) for critical applications such as email and banking apps. Second steps like one-time codes, notifications, or biometric verification increase account security. If possible, use application-based authenticators instead of SMS.

2. Avoid unprotected public Wi-Fi.
