Fraud begins before 5G arrives: Beware of 0850 numbers! They threaten, 'If you don't buy it, your internet will be cut off'...
Although 5G technology has not yet been launched, scammers are targeting citizens. Calling from 0850 numbers, scammers use the lie that "if you don't buy a 5G-compatible modem, your internet will be cut off" and try to sell fake modems for prices reaching up to 3 thousand liras. Do not fall for this trap!
While 5G technology has not yet been launched in Turkey, phone scammers have begun victimizing citizens by using the name of 5G technology.
Individuals who call, particularly from 0850 numbers, and threaten, "If you don't buy a 5G-compatible modem, your internet will be cut off," are trying to sell fake modems for prices reaching up to 3 thousand liras.
According to a report by Hürriyet, a victim named Sevilay stated that scammers tried to sell her a modem for 2,900 TL with the threat that her internet would be cut off. Another citizen stated that they were deceived with the lie that they would have to pay a cancellation fee.
THEY THREATEN WITH CANCELLATION FEES
Scammers also deceive citizens with the "cancellation fee" lie. One of the victims reported being told that their contract would be canceled and that they therefore had to pay a cancellation fee.
A citizen who fell into the scammers' trap reported that they made a payment of 2 thousand liras and realized they had been scammed when no modem arrived.
Consumer Rights Association President Ergün Kılıç pointed out that scammers can call from lines starting with 444 or 0850 using methods such as number spoofing, and called on citizens to be cautious against such calls.
BE CAREFUL NOT TO BECOME A VICTIM ON THE INTERNET
Approach calls that do not come from official operators with suspicion.
Do not give credence to sales offers coming from 0850 numbers.
Definitely research the situation before sending any money.
