Game Pass price hike costs Xbox dearly: 'Millions of subscribers lost'

It has been reported that Microsoft's gaming subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, has suffered a significant loss of subscribers following a sharp price increase implemented in 2025. According to the information provided, the price hike, which reached up to 50 percent, led users to cancel their subscriptions.

According to information shared on X by well-known gaming industry figure Geoff Keighley, Xbox Chief Strategy Officer Matthew Ball stated that Game Pass lost "millions" of subscribers following last year's price increase. It was also noted that this situation reflected as a loss of millions of dollars in revenue for the company.

The price hike decision in question had also drawn backlash, particularly among users in Turkey. The fact that Game Pass prices for some packages exceeded 900 TL led to comments that the appeal of the subscription model had diminished.

Following the change in Xbox management, it was reported that the new CEO, Asha Sharma, has taken a step back on pricing policy and lowered Game Pass fees. It is stated that the company has begun to reposition the brand and pursue a player-focused strategy during this process.

According to current pricing, the Game Pass Essential package starts at 269 TL. The Premium package is offered at 409 TL, the Ultimate package at 529 TL, and PC Game Pass at 419 TL.
