Good news for sports fans from Apple

Apple continues to invest in its sports and subscription business. The tech giant has released the Apple Sports app for iPhone users who want to follow match scores and sports competition analysis. The app offers the ability to track scores, team statistics, and betting odds across many major sports leagues.

The app will provide sports fans with access to real-time scores, statistics, and other information about their favorite teams and leagues, while also bringing competition to other sports score aggregators on the App Store.

Initially launched in the US, UK, and Canada, the app will provide scores and analysis for leagues including MLS, NBA, NCAA, NHL, Bundesliga, LaLiga, Liga MX, Ligue 1, Premier League, and Serie A. Apple states that more leagues will be added. Coverage will increase over time for future seasons, including MLB, NFL, NCASF, NWSL, and WNBA.

Through the app, users will be able to customize scoreboards to follow their favorite teams, leagues, and tournaments, and switch between various sections such as information for each match, team statistics, lineup details, and live betting odds.

Apple notes that this can optionally be turned off by the user in the settings. Although the app is free to use, it may help Apple direct its customers to other subscription offers in the live sports space through the Apple TV app, where users can watch live matches from Apple and other apps. The company has been investing in the sports business for the last few years, forming partnerships with Major League Baseball with a 10-year broadcasting deal that began in 2023. Last year, it also began offering the MLS Season Pass through the Apple TV app for $14.99 per month or $99 per season.

Additionally, Apple TV offers a multiview feature for watching sports, including events such as Friday Night Baseball, Major League Soccer matches, and live MLS and MLB shows.
