Google Drive update released: Videos will now load faster

Google's popular cloud storage service, Drive, has been updated. Some of the features included in the update had been in development since last October. However, all features are now widely available.

Three features have been introduced with the new Google Drive update. The first and most notable is the improvement in playback for videos uploaded to Google Drive. With this new feature, the creation and playback of Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH) video transcodes have been enabled for all new videos uploaded to Google Drive. This means that videos can now be played at higher or lower resolutions depending on factors such as the user's local network quality. However, while this feature applies to all new videos uploaded to Drive, it was also emphasized that existing videos in Drive will be updated by the end of the year.

TIMEOUT DURATION INCREASED TO 30 MINUTES

Another of the new features concerns searches within the application. With the feature currently available for iOS, filter categories have been added to the app, accessible directly below the search bar, including File Type, Owners, and Last modified filters. These new filters are intended to help you find a file easily when you search for it.

The final feature included in the update concerns the scope of long-running queries in Connected Sheets. Last year, the company increased the timeout duration for BigQuery and Looker from 5 minutes to 10 minutes. With the new update, the timeout duration has now increased to 20-30 minutes, and starting this week, Connected Sheets users will be able to view the status of a query in Google Sheets and easily cancel it.
