Google introduces feature to block scam messages with AI!

Google has announced a new security feature against text-based scam attempts targeting Android users. The AI-powered fraud detection tool added to the Google Messages app analyzes messages received via SMS, MMS, and Rich Communication Services (RCS) in real-time to identify suspicious content. The company states that this innovation was developed specifically to counter scam methods that initially appear innocent but evolve into malicious schemes over time.

This feature displays warnings to users for messages suspected of containing fraud, allowing them to quickly delete the message or block and report the sender. Google Messages Product Manager Alberto Pastor Nieto stated that scammers' new tactics are able to evade existing spam filters, which is why they developed a real-time, AI-powered solution. Nieto said, “Traditional spam protections focus on detecting scam attempts before the conversation begins. However, scammers can become dangerous in the middle of a chat by using social engineering techniques. For this reason, we have invested in AI models that analyze suspicious messages in real-time and prioritize user privacy.”

The fraud detection feature is initially being rolled out in English to users in the US, UK, and Canada. Google states that this feature will be made available in more countries in the future. The feature will be enabled by default and will only analyze messages from people not saved in the contacts list. The company emphasizes that all message processing is performed on-device, thereby protecting user privacy. Users can disable this feature via the “Spam Protection” settings in Google Messages if they wish.

NEW UPDATES HAVE ARRIVED

As of March 5, 2025, Google has introduced significant updates for Android users. The Find My Device app now enables live location sharing with “trusted contacts,” while users can choose the duration of sharing and who they share their location with. Additionally, the app will remind users of shared location information with regular notifications.

New features have also been announced for Pixel 9 users. Users will be able to perform multi-angle live streaming via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi with GoPro cameras or other Pixel devices. This feature will be compatible with YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. The Pixel Studio app will offer the ability to create stylized images and stickers. Furthermore, satellite messaging support exclusive to the Pixel 9, advanced audio recording transcription features, and screenshot collection suggestions have also been added.

Google stated that all these updates will reach users within a few weeks and that Android users will gain an enhanced experience in terms of security and ease of use.
