Google Maps for Android receives 'weather' update
Google Maps, one of the world's most used map/navigation applications, has announced a 'weather' update for Android.
With the latest update, Google Maps for Android has begun showing the weather conditions for the area being viewed. While it is considered strange that this feature, which has been available on the iOS version for a very long time, has arrived on Android so late, the weather is displayed directly via a small icon on the left side of the interface elements on the main screen.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ASSISTANCE
Google Maps has been in the news recently with many different new developments. Taking major steps for its service, Google recently announced that it would start a new era with the help of large language models. The new infrastructure, which will initially be available only in the US, will allow users to interact with the service as if they were communicating with ChatGPT or Google Bard and receive answers from the service specifically regarding location/venue recommendations.
GOOGLE AIMS TO MAKE DISCOVERING NEW PLACES EASIER
Stating, "We will use LLMs to analyze Maps' detailed information about more than 250 million places and trusted information from more than 300 million contributors to quickly provide suggestions on where to go," Google aims to make discovering new places easier with this move. The system, which also supports follow-up questions regarding a recommended restaurant (such as meal prices, etc.), will also be launched globally in the future.
Before this, the service had come to the fore with a three-dimensional building step. For those who missed it, Maps has supported the display of buildings in 3D in some regions for a very long time. As we learned last month, this usage structure will be expanded very soon. Accordingly, 3D buildings will begin to be displayed in mobile versions and also during navigation on Android Auto, which is specific to cars.
