Google prepares sanctions for Android apps with high RAM usage

Google is preparing for a stricter oversight process for apps that consume high amounts of memory in the Android ecosystem. It is reported that the first phase of the policy is being implemented on Pixel phones with Android 17, and it is aimed to be expanded to other manufacturers' devices in the future. This approach will cover a wide range of devices, from budget-friendly models with 4 GB of RAM to high-end phones with 16 GB or more of memory.

Google's new memory limits and store audits are expected to come into full effect as of February 2027. By this date, developers will need to optimize their apps in areas such as dynamic memory usage, image files, and bitmap management.
