SANCTIONS WILL ALSO REFLECT ON THE PLAY STORE

According to the new rules, apps that exceed the determined RAM limits may be automatically slowed down at the operating system level or closed in the background. This is intended to prevent apps that affect the device's overall performance from degrading the user experience.

The sanctions will not be limited to in-device performance interventions. It is stated that the visibility of apps that do not meet optimization criteria may be reduced in search and recommendation lists on the Google Play Store. Additionally, restrictions may be placed on the ability of developers who do not comply with memory consumption thresholds to publish new updates or applications.

It is reported that the first phase of the policy is being implemented on Pixel phones with Android 17, and it is aimed to be expanded to other manufacturers' devices in the future. This approach will cover a wide range of devices, from budget-friendly models with 4 GB of RAM to high-end phones with 16 GB or more of memory.
