Humanoid robots begin duty at BMW factory

Figure, a relatively new name in the humanoid robot sector, took a significant step today by signing its first commercial agreement and announcing that it will bring its first developed humanoid robot (named Figure 01) to the BMW production facility in South Carolina, USA.

THEY WILL TAKE PART IN FIVE DIFFERENT TASKS

It is not yet known how many of the robots seen above will be used in the factory, nor has it been fully explained exactly what the robot will do in the factory. In a statement to TechCrunch, Figure reports that they will focus on five different tasks in the initial phase, and this robot does not have the goal of replacing the employees in the factory. Figure and BMW want to see the performance of this type of technology in a real production process, and both parties are expected to gather important information from this.

THEY WILL OPERATE ON A DIFFERENT SYSTEM THAN CLASSIC ROBOTS

The Germany-based automotive giant, which has been receiving help from stationary robots like its competitors in the car production process for many years and does not want to fall behind in the field of humanoid robots, aims to make the automation process more "dynamic" with humanoid robots, meaning it targets solutions that are more adaptable to changing conditions. Unlike classic robots, humanoid robots can adapt more easily to changing conditions with their special artificial intelligence systems and visual perception capabilities.
