Innovation in phone cameras: Samsung becomes a sensor supplier

Apple, which has sourced camera sensors for its iPhone series from Sony for many years, has taken a significant step by including Samsung in its supply chain. Samsung has managed to surpass the quality of the Sony Exmor RS series with its new sensor.

ACHIEVED THE DIFFICULT

Last year, claims emerged that Apple had initiated a testing process with Samsung. Now, it is suggested that this process has been successfully completed and that Samsung has surpassed the Sony Exmor RS series in terms of quality. Sources had stated that Apple only approved this collaboration once Samsung achieved the same quality as Sony.

This sensor, which will be used in the iPhone 18 series, is defined by a 3-layer structure. In other words, three chips are placed on top of each other in a sandwich format, shortening the distance that pixel data travels. This reduces the time it takes for the sensor to optimize the frame after the shutter is pressed.

It is claimed that Samsung will produce this sensor exclusively for Apple. On the other hand, information has also surfaced that it is working on a 3-layer sensor capable of reaching 500MP resolution that will make waves for its Galaxy flagship series.
