It is stated that the cameras are planned to be used as infrared sensors. It is thought that these sensors could further improve the spatial audio experience. Additionally, thanks to infrared cameras, users will be able to perform operations such as music control and call management more easily with hand gestures.

Currently, AirPods users can give some commands with head movements. With this new technology, the inclusion of hand gestures could minimize the need to take the phone out of one's pocket. AirPods with these features are expected to be released in 2026 or 2027.
