In recent days, claims emerged on the social media platform X that Gmail would be shut down. However, Google has denied these claims. A user on X, formerly known as Twitter, claimed that Google would shut down Gmail this coming August.

This claim spread virally and received 6 million interactions in 1 day. However, it was understood that this claim was completely fake.
A screenshot stated that the Gmail application would be shut down this coming August. However, this screenshot was a fake version created with Photoshop of a notification sent to users last year regarding the removal of Gmail's Basic HTML view.
Gmail is known as an extremely popular email service with more than 1.8 billion active users.
Google responded to the claims that Gmail would shut down with a post from Gmail's official account. The Gmail post included the statement "Gmail is here to stay."
