Is our data secure on social media?

The National Cyber Incident Response Center's (USOM) official X account announced in a post today that many social media applications, including LinkedIn, X, and Weibo, have been victims of a data breach. The disclosed data is truly alarming.

12 TB DATA LEAK

According to the statement by USOM, the scale of the data breach is a full 12 Terabytes. Data from many giant firms, including the job-seeking platform LinkedIn, the social media platform X, and Weibo, as well as messaging applications, has been leaked.

The incident, in which a total of 26 billion personal data records were leaked, is being described as the 'largest data breach in history'.

If you are a member of one of the platforms whose data was leaked, you can follow these steps:

  • Change your password and ensure that your new password is at least 10 characters long, including uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters.
  • Check whether your accounts have been compromised on the Have I Been Pwned platform.
  • Enable two-factor authentication on the platforms where you have memberships.
