It was Erdoğan's election promise: Only feature phones left for the youth

President and AKP Chairman Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had promised tax-free devices to university students following a Cabinet Meeting held before the elections.

Erdoğan had stated to the youth receiving formal education, "We will provide support for mobile phones and computers not exceeding 9,500 Turkish Liras, with a total support amount not exceeding 5,500 Turkish Liras."

Erdoğan also expressed that this support would cover 44.4 percent of the market price for mobile phones and 16.7 percent for computers.

BTK APPROVAL STILL PENDING

Following the start of the 'tax-free device' campaign as of November 1, mobile phone brands and models under 9,500 Turkish Liras manufactured in Turkey will be available for purchase by students once approved by the BTK. For this reason, models currently on sale face the risk of becoming unaffordable due to inflation.

ONLY FEATURE PHONES LEFT FOR THE YOUTH

Tax-free phone campaigns have begun to spread on e-commerce sites under "tax-free device campaign" pages. It was observed that 'feature' phones were being sold on these pages. On one e-commerce site, it was seen that a feature phone model was on sale for 1,999 TL, and another feature phone was being sold for the same price.

When the products were examined, it was seen that there were interesting details regarding their features.

The fact that the devices have a 0.3 MP rear camera resolution, radio functionality, and a flashlight feature draws attention.

In the user reviews of the product, it was seen that there were comments such as, "I bought it for my grandmother, it arrived. It has both a charging dock and the option to charge with a cable. The device is definitely very high quality for people over 65, I recommend it."
