Japan and the US reach agreement to strengthen cooperation in space transportation

Japan and the US have reached a new agreement to strengthen their cooperation in the field of space transportation. The agreement provides for the standardization of review processes regarding one country launching rockets from the other's bases.

According to a statement by the Japanese Cabinet Office, the Japanese National Space Policy Secretariat and the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at simplifying regulations for space transportation and increasing information sharing between the two countries.

It was also reported that the parties will hold discussions on industry guidelines that determine requirements for spaceports. Within the scope of the process, the possibility of connecting cities in Japan and the US via suborbital flights at an altitude of approximately 100 kilometers is also being evaluated.

Ryuzaki Takatsugu, Director General of the Japanese Secretariat for Space Development and Utilization, said in a statement after the signing ceremony, "We want to establish a system that can adapt to the rapidly expanding space sector in various forms."
