Kaspersky issues 'Odyssey' warning: Fake streaming sites target personal and banking information

Christopher Nolan’s new film ‘Odyssey’, which is considered one of the most anticipated productions of 2026, has caught the attention of not only cinema audiences but also scammers. Kaspersky experts announced that they have detected multilingual fake streaming sites that target users by exploiting the global interest generated by the film.

According to the company, scammers lure users into traps through websites prepared with the promise of watching the film for free. To increase persuasiveness, these sites may include dubbing options in the user's native language, fake viewer comments, and ratings.

When the user attempts to play the film, they encounter a fake video player. Registration is requested to continue the content for “free.” At this stage, personal information such as email address, first name, and last name is requested; in subsequent steps, users may be asked to create a password and enter banking information under the guise of a “free trial.”

Kaspersky pointed out that this method increases the risk of credential theft, especially for individuals who use the same password across multiple platforms. It was stated that users who share their banking information could face direct financial loss.

We frequently see scammers taking advantage of high-profile premieres like Odyssey to exploit the curiosity and loyalty of fans eagerly awaiting major productions.

Altukhova emphasized that users should be especially cautious if a film that has just been released and is still showing in theaters is offered for “free” on a suspicious or unknown platform. She recommended that content be accessed only through official platforms.

Kaspersky’s recommendations for users are as follows:

• - Use only official and reliable websites to watch or download films; check URL formats and the spelling of company names.
• - Prefer secure payment services or prepaid cards to avoid putting credit card or bank account information directly at risk.
• - Enable two-factor authentication on your accounts and financial applications.
• - Regularly monitor your account activity for the possibility of unauthorized transactions.
• - Use a reliable security solution against phishing and similar threats.
