LG's AI-powered cute robot to be unveiled in January

LG will introduce its "smart home AI agent" at CES 2024, the technology product fair to be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center from January 9-12.

Equipped with the latest robotics, AI, and multimodal technologies—including the ability to move, learn, understand, and engage in complex conversations—the assistant robot functions as a versatile home manager and a companion.

LG's smart living solution demonstrates the company's commitment to realizing its "Zero Labor Home" vision while enhancing the daily lives of users.

The agent can navigate the home independently by utilizing autonomous driving technology with its advanced "two-legged" wheel design. The smart device can interact with users verbally and express emotions through movements made possible by its articulated legs. The use of multimodal AI technology, which combines voice and image recognition with natural language processing, allows the smart home AI agent to understand intentions as well as actively communicate with users.

The assistant seamlessly connects to and controls smart home appliances and IoT devices in the home.

Thanks to LG's recent collaboration with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., the AI agent is equipped with the Qualcomm Robotics RB5 Platform, which enables powerful on-device AI features such as face and user recognition. The device uses its built-in camera, speaker, and various sensors to collect real-time environmental data, including temperature, humidity, and indoor air quality.

LG's advanced AI technologies analyze this data, learning continuously and combining it with external information. The AI agent also serves as a pet monitor and security guard, allowing users to remotely view and care for their pets and sending alerts if any unusual activity is detected.

IT WILL PATROL WHEN NO ONE IS HOME

Capable of patrolling autonomously when no one is home, the agent robot can move from one room to another and send a notification to the user's smartphone if a window is left open or any lights are left on. It can also help save energy by connecting to a smart plug and turning off unused devices throughout the house.

When the user returns home, the device greets them at the front door, understands their emotions by analyzing their voice and facial expressions, and selects music or other content to suit their mood. It also assists users in their daily lives by providing transportation details, weather updates, personal schedules, or medication reminders.

With its smart home AI agent and active hub features, LG aims to free users from the burden of household chores and establish itself as a dominant player in the smart home market. In a statement, Lyu Jae-cheol, President of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company, said:

"Our groundbreaking smart home AI agent combines cutting-edge autonomous mobility and AI technologies with advanced communication capabilities and services to help customers free themselves from household chores. As a smart life solution company, LG will continue to help our customers experience a smarter, more enjoyable life at home."
