Meta signals to 'AI' opportunists
In a statement released by Meta, the importance of users knowing whether the content they see is generated by artificial intelligence was emphasized.
Meta has announced that it will label images shared by users on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads that are created using artificial intelligence (AI) tools from other companies.
The statement explained that while realistic images created using the Meta AI feature are already marked with an "Imagined with AI" label, the company intends to extend this practice to content created with tools from other companies as well.
LABELS TO BE APPLIED IN ALL LANGUAGES
The statement noted that the company is working with industry partners to comply with common technical standards that identify content as AI-generated, adding, "Being able to detect these will allow us to label AI-generated images that users share on Facebook, Instagram, and Threads." the statement said.
Noting that this feature is currently under development, the statement announced that labeling will begin in all languages supported by the applications in the coming months.
Drawing attention to the fact that major elections are approaching worldwide, the statement included the following: "During this period, we expect to learn much more about how people create and share AI content, what kind of transparency people find most valuable, and how these technologies are evolving."
