Microsoft engineer files complaint against company

Microsoft's generative artificial intelligence project, Copilot Designer, shocked users during tests conducted by engineers by generating obscene and absurd images. While Copilot Designer is planned to be integrated into Windows 11, this situation indicates that the artificial intelligence is not ready and should be restricted with age limits.

Microsoft engineer files complaint against company

Microsoft's Copilot Designer is facing issues due to the creation of adult content.

As Microsoft continues its work on generative artificial intelligence, it has encountered a new development. Copilot, which recently stood out with its notable capabilities, has been subject to criticism in the US. Microsoft artificial intelligence engineer Shane Jones has filed a complaint with the US Federal Trade Commission regarding images generated by Copilot Designer.

Jones initially notified Microsoft but did not receive a response. Consequently, Jones took the matter to an official authority, the Federal Trade Commission. The reason for the complaint was that Copilot Designer was generating obscene and disturbing images.

Copilot Designer will soon be available on devices using the Windows 11 operating system. However, Jones argues that the artificial intelligence tool needs further scrutiny. During red-team testing, Jones encountered several disturbing images. For example, images related to abortion rights displayed demons and monsters, and different prompts resulted in images featuring children using weapons, women, and sexual content.

For this reason, Jones has requested an age restriction for Microsoft Copilot. The engineer first reported this situation to Microsoft in December. However, he did not receive a positive response. Jones eventually reached out to US senators and wrote a letter to the Federal Trade Commission to submit his complaint.

The engineer stated that an age restriction should be implemented for Microsoft Copilot Designer on Google and Android platforms.
