Microsoft has shared the results of performance work carried out for Windows 11 since the beginning of the year. According to the company, optimizations made to the operating system have increased response speed by up to 20 percent in some scenarios.
The improvements focused particularly on components frequently used by users, such as the Start menu, File Explorer, Search, and Microsoft Edge. Navjot Virk, Microsoft's Corporate Vice President of Windows Experiences, emphasized that more efficient management of system resources was the deciding factor in the performance gains.
With the new adjustments, the goal is for processor and memory resources to be used in a way that prioritizes the tasks the user is currently performing over background services. This approach is stated to have an impact on application launch times and interface fluidity.
NOTABLE CHANGE FOR COMPUTERS WITH 8 GB OF RAM
One of the areas Microsoft highlighted was computers with low memory capacity. Thanks to new memory management, Windows 11 can keep up to 2 GB of active data in RAM instead of moving it to slower storage. This helps applications access data faster.
The behavior of the Widgets section has also been changed on systems with 8 GB or less of RAM. This section now only loads when opened by the user. According to Microsoft, this adjustment can create more than 200 MB of additional memory space for other applications.
Performance work was not limited to memory management. Some adjustments were made to ensure Windows updates cause less disruption to the user; the Widgets interface was simplified. The long-requested option to move the taskbar to the top or sides of the screen was also among the developed innovations.
It was reported that the login time with Windows Hello has been shortened and Bluetooth connection stability has been increased. The company stated that the pairing time for AirPods headphones has been reduced to 15 seconds.
Microsoft is also preparing to renew the Windows Search experience. The faster and more advanced Search feature, which is being tested in the Windows Insider program, is planned to be offered to all users in the future. However, it is noted that the performance increases shared by the company may vary depending on the hardware used and the operating scenario.
