Microsoft's $69 billion Activision journey comes to an end

Microsoft had been unable to acquire Activision Blizzard due to ongoing legal processes. The acquisition process, which constantly faced new hurdles, is nearing its end.

Regarding Microsoft's approximately $69 billion acquisition, the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) stated, “Under the new deal, Microsoft will not acquire the cloud gaming rights held by Activision and will instead sell them to an independent third party, Ubisoft Entertainment SA (Ubisoft), before the deal is completed. The CMA believes that the restructured deal includes changes that significantly address the concerns it raised earlier this year regarding the original sale transaction.”

20-MONTH PROCESS COMPLETED

To secure approval from the UK's Competition and Markets Authority, Microsoft decided to sell Activision Blizzard's cloud gaming rights to another gaming company, Ubisoft, for 15 years. Following this development, Ubisoft will soon include Activision Blizzard games in its cloud gaming services.

The deal was finally approved after the necessary conditions were met.

Microsoft has completed the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard approximately 2 years after it began.
