NASA has announced that the Ingenuity helicopter, which it sent to Mars in February 2021 and which exceeded expectations, will no longer be able to fly.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) had lost communication with the Ingenuity Mars helicopter, which was operating on the Red Planet.
This small helicopter launched to Mars achieved a historic success as the first powered aircraft to take off from the Martian surface on April 19, 2021. Initially planned for only 5 test flights, Ingenuity performed more than 70 flights, remaining in the air for a total of more than 2 hours and proving that controlled flight on Mars is possible.
However, NASA lost communication during Ingenuity's 72nd flight on January 18. The helicopter, which reached an altitude of 12 meters during its final flight, remained in the air for 4.5 seconds before communication was lost during landing.
