Neuralink announces: First issue reported with skull-implanted chip

According to a written statement on Neuralink’s website, the amount of data the processor and battery in the skull receive from the nerves has decreased due to the retraction of 64 connection threads implanted into Noland Arbaugh's brain tissue.

The company stated that the reduction in the amount of data processed due to the retraction of the threads does not pose a health risk to Arbaugh, the first brain chip user, and noted that efforts are ongoing to increase the device's functionality.

Arbaugh, who had the chip implanted in his brain on January 28, was able to play chess just by thinking in the weeks following the surgery.

Neuralink had announced that the chip had been capturing less data since the end of February.

Arbaugh, who has been paralyzed in his hands and feet following an accident approximately 8 years ago, played chess using the chip despite the issue during a live broadcast on his X account on May 4.
