New regulation for safety in air travel

An important step has been taken in the United States to ensure flight safety. The transport of certain items that pose a fire risk in the cargo hold of aircraft has now been banned, and these items must be kept only in carry-on luggage.

In a statement made by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), it was stated that a new regulation has been introduced to increase flight safety.

ITEMS INCLUDED IN THE BAN

Within the framework of the new rules, the transport of the following items in the cargo hold of aircraft has been banned:

• Power banks
• Phone charging cases
• Spare lithium-ion batteries
• Spare lithium-metal batteries
• Phone batteries
• Laptop batteries
• External battery packs or portable chargers

MEASURES TAKEN TO REDUCE FIRE RISK

The main reason behind the regulation is that lithium batteries pose a fire risk. According to the FAA's statement, these batteries can overheat and catch fire when damaged or improperly packed. Fires that may occur in the cargo hold can spread rapidly and endanger the aircraft. For this reason, the transport of such items has been restricted.

In its statement, the FAA said, "When a carry-on bag is checked at the gate or on the aircraft, all spare lithium batteries and power banks must be removed from the bag and kept with the passenger in the aircraft cabin. Battery terminals must be protected against short circuits." This new regulation aims to prevent battery-related fires on aircraft and increase passenger safety.
