New requirement from Netflix for shared account users
Netflix has changed its account structure, beginning to require that profiles, excluding children's profiles, be associated with separate email addresses.
Netflix has begun to gradually implement a new practice affecting how user accounts operate. Under the new system, profiles other than children's profiles are required to be associated with a separate email address.
The update, which began rolling out as of June 15, moves profile usage on the platform to a point different from its current structure. Previously, profiles created under a single subscription could be used without requiring additional login information. In the new practice, however, it is envisioned that each profile will be defined by its own email address and login credentials.
The change is expected to make profile-based access and personalized recommendations more distinct. However, the practice has sparked debate, particularly among users who switch between different profiles using a single account on a shared television in the same household.
Some users argue that the requirement to create a separate email address for each profile will reduce ease of use. It is also noted that additional profiles created by single users to separate content by genre or viewing habits may be affected by the new system.
Details regarding when Netflix will roll out the practice to all users have not yet been clarified.
