New restrictions for users under 16 on Instagram

Meta has announced new restrictions for Instagram users under the age of 16. According to the new rules, users under 16 will not be able to start live broadcasts or change protection settings in private messages.

American technology company Meta has announced updates regarding "Teen Accounts" on the Instagram platform. The statement reported that users under 16 will not be able to use the "live broadcast" feature without parental consent and will not be able to turn off the "automatic blurring" feature in private messages. It was also noted that the "Teen Accounts" feature will be expanded to Facebook and Messenger. Information was also shared that the innovations will be tested within a few months, first in the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. The social media platform Instagram, under the Meta umbrella, introduced the "Teen Accounts" application in September 2024, which restricts the use of the platform by children and teenagers and includes security measures. 'WE WELCOME IT' Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu also evaluated Meta's new decision for Instagram on his social media account. Uraloğlu said, "In parallel with our social media age restriction draft, which we have been working on meticulously for a long time, we welcome Meta's decision to prevent users under 16 from broadcasting live on the Instagram platform without parental consent." Uraloğlu stated, "The inability to broadcast live without parental approval and the automatic blurring of images containing suspicious obscenity are very important steps aimed at minimizing online risks."
