The Turkish Space Agency (TUA) has shared a new "Experiment Glossary" containing important terms related to the 13 experiments conducted by Turkey's first astronaut, Alper Gezeravcı, at the International Space Station (ISS).
In the announcement made by TUA via social media, the focus was on terms related to the "UYNA" experiment. KIBO (Hope), a laboratory module attached to the ISS developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), was transported to space and integrated into the station in 2008. This module was designed to host various scientific research projects and experiments.
Some of the terms used in the experiment were explained as follows:
Alloy: A new metallic material with superior properties formed by combining at least two metal elements or metalloids in various compositions.
Entropy: A concept expressing the disorder and complexity within the structures that make up a material.
Levitation: The ability of an object to float or rise in the air without being pulled by gravity.
Electrostatic Levitation Furnace (ELF): A special technology designed to hold a material in a floating state using electrostatic forces and to test it at high temperatures, allowing materials to be tested and characterized without contact.
