Over 100 free live TV channels arrive on PS5

Sony has launched a new free live TV service for PlayStation 5 users. Offered through an ad-supported model, the service provides access to over 100 live channels directly through the console.

The new feature can be accessed via the Media tab on the PS5 home screen. Users simply need to click on the “Live TV on PS5” icon to access the broadcast stream.

WHAT CONTENT IS AVAILABLE ON THE SERVICE?

The platform includes Sony Pictures Television content as well as news channels such as NBC and Fox News. Sports broadcasts, movie channels, documentaries, and gaming and esports content have also been included in the service's scope.

On the movie side, options like MovieSphere and FilmRise Free Movies stand out, while content from The Walking Dead universe is offered for series viewers. In the anime category, Crunchyroll content is among the options in the broadcast stream.

Sony's new service is not limited to just movies and series. Creative-focused entertainment programs, podcasts, and special programs like eCLUTCH are also listed as part of the live TV experience.

BRAVIA AND REGIONAL EXPANSION PLAN

The company announced that the service will also come to Bravia television models in the future, beyond the PlayStation 5. This aims to spread the free live TV experience to a wider group of devices within the Sony ecosystem.

Regional expansion is also among the plans. Canada is expected to be included in the coverage in the first phase, followed by an expansion of access to other regions.

Sony shut down its subscription-based PlayStation Vue service in 2019. The new free and ad-supported model is notable for the company's repositioning in the broadcasting space, where platforms like The Roku Channel, Tubi, and Sling Freestream are growing.
