Palantir's AI armament push: An inevitable reality in the new era

Palantir, a company that supplies advanced surveillance and analysis technology to the United States and Israel, continues to be a subject of public debate. The name of the company's co-founder, Peter Thiel, had previously come to the fore with allegations regarding business ties to the late billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who died in prison. In the shadow of these controversies, Palantir management shared a series of statements with the public to respond to the criticism.

In a post featuring excerpts from the book "The Technological Republic," written by Palantir senior executives Alexander Karp and Nicholas Zamiska, it was pointed out that military power is now shaped by software technology. The statement argued that "soft power and rhetoric" are currently insufficient, and that deterrent and effective military power can be achieved through software-based technologies.

The company's statements indicated that the only question regarding the new era based on artificial intelligence is which groups will develop these technologies and with what intentions. It was underscored that the production of AI-equipped weapons is no longer just a choice: the view that "the issue is not whether these weapons will be made, but who will develop them and for what purposes" was put forward.

Furthermore, it was stated that technology giants operating in Silicon Valley should take responsibility for crime and security issues in addition to classic innovation. The statement included the assessment that, "If an American Marine requests a superior rifle, software should be produced with the same approach."

In Palantir's posts, while it was claimed that the US makes a significant contribution to maintaining global peace, it was also emphasized that an environment of intolerance toward public figures causes a decrease in qualified human resources for the state. The company expressed the opinion that the disappearance of a culture of forgiveness and the unbridled disclosure of personal lives harm state cadres.

MILITARY POWER AND NEW APPROACHES IN THE DIGITAL AGE

In the published statements, it was argued that the atomic age has ended and a new era of AI-based deterrence has begun. At the same time, it was suggested that the military restrictions imposed on Germany and Japan after World War II should be reviewed.

The company's statements also touched upon cultural and social questions. It was argued that the "empty understanding of pluralism and inclusivity" prevalent in Western societies should be questioned, and that keeping all cultures closed to criticism leads to the covering up of truths.

Palantir's wide range of clients is known to include the US Department of Defense, the Israeli military, and numerous countries and large corporations. Since January 2024, the company has increased its cooperation with the Israeli military and has significantly expanded its Tel Aviv office over the last two years. This cooperation continues to be the target of criticism regarding Israel's ongoing military operations in Palestine.
