Research: Frequent interaction with AI bots may mechanize human communication styles

Intense interaction with AI-powered customer service bots and everyday digital assistants may be affecting not only how technology approaches humans, but also how humans communicate. According to a study by an international research team, users can transform their own modes of expression over time to communicate more harmoniously with algorithms.

The research noted that as AI systems become more human-like, users may in turn adopt shorter, formulaic, predictable, and machine-like communication patterns. This trend was defined in the study as humans "aligning themselves more with artificial intelligence."

İnci Toral-Manson from the University of Birmingham in the UK stated that customer service robots mimic humans to trigger cognitive and emotional responses, creating a reciprocal interaction.

ETHICAL USE WARNING FROM EXPERTS

Selcen Öztürkcan from Linnaeus University in Sweden also pointed out that due to the mirroring reflex, humans can internalize the language and behavioral patterns of artificial intelligence. According to the research, algorithmic systems carry the risk of narrowing individuals' perception of their authentic selves and steering them toward more predictable forms of communication.

The study emphasized that because AI tools are becoming widespread in many fields, from customer service to healthcare and retail, companies must use these technologies within an ethical framework. Experts warned that the long-term effects of artificial intelligence on human psychology, identity perception, and self-expression must be closely monitored.
