Revolution in artificial intelligence: 'Digital twin' of the brain created
Scientists have created a 'digital twin' of a mouse brain using artificial intelligence. The model accelerates experiments by predicting neuronal responses, with the ultimate goal of creating a virtual copy of the human brain.
Scientists from Stanford University have succeeded in creating a digital copy of a mouse brain using artificial intelligence. The study, conducted to understand how the brain functions, is considered a revolutionary step. Stanford's brain research team utilized artificial intelligence technologies to model the brain's electrical activity and neural networks in detail.
MICE WATCHED FILMS
In the study published in the journal Nature, this 'digital twin' was determined by the neural activities recorded while the mice were watching film clips.
The digital twin of the brain allowed scientists to better analyze the complex structure of the brain by monitoring neural activity and communication between neurons with high resolution. The study not only provided more information about how the brain works but also demonstrated how well artificial intelligence technologies can be integrated into biological systems. The model was trained by having the mice watch action films such as 'Mad Max'. The low-resolution vision of the mice was found to be suitable for perceiving moving scenes. The model, trained with 900 minutes of brain activity data, can be personalized for each mouse.
The digital twin also revealed the connection preferences of neurons. It was observed that neurons prefer to form connections with other neurons that respond to the same visual stimulus. The researchers aim to apply the model to other brain regions and to primates.
