Satellite Emergency SOS feature is coming to Google Pixel phones!
Google has begun offering satellite connectivity to some Pixel models with a new update. With this update, the Satellite Emergency SOS feature will also be available on Pixel phones.
Google has started rolling out a new feature for its Pixel phones called "Satellite Emergency SOS". This feature is located in the Safety & emergency tab within the Settings menu on Pixel devices. With the latest update, this feature is being widely rolled out to almost all Pixel devices; however, since it has not been activated yet, clicking on the Satellite Emergency SOS setting does not open any screen.
The 9to5Google team announced that they were able to access the menu Google prepared for this feature using a rooted Pixel device. The Satellite Emergency SOS page offers users the ability to send messages to emergency services and share their location with their Pixel phones. This feature can be used even when there is no access to a mobile or Wi-Fi network.
The page does not yet provide information on contacting people other than emergency services, but Google states that it will share your name, phone number, and the contact information of up to three people from your Google account with emergency services and satellite service providers.
The Satellite Emergency SOS feature provides a link to a Google support page regarding which countries are supported, but this page has not yet been published. Additionally, there is also a link to a Garmin Search and Rescue Insurance plan.
