Smuggling investigation in Taiwan for Nvidia's advanced AI chips

In Taiwan, charges have been filed against nine individuals in an investigation into allegations that advanced AI hardware from US chipmaker Nvidia was illegally sent to China.

The Keelung District Prosecutors Office announced that a senior Nvidia executive in Taiwan played a key role in the process of shipping 130 B300 AI servers to China. As part of the investigation, it was stated that some of the shipments were made directly from Taiwan, while others were routed through Indonesia or Japan.

According to the prosecutor's statement, 74 of the 130 servers in question reached Chinese customers. The remaining 56 servers were seized by Taiwanese customs officials.

B300 servers contain Nvidia's advanced chips used in training artificial intelligence models. Such hardware is subject to export controls implemented by the Washington administration to limit China's advanced AI technology capabilities.

It is noted that US restrictions on advanced AI chips and the servers containing them have created a lucrative black market for the products, with prices in some transactions reportedly doubling or tripling.
