Sony is losing ground in the gaming industry

Sony announced that it increased its revenue by 10 percent in the third quarter of 2023. This is attributed to the company's success in the finance, film, and music sectors. There is even talk that the firm plans to spin off its finance department in 2025 to establish a company under its umbrella called Sony Financial Group. In doing so, Sony aims to place greater emphasis on the gaming and entertainment sectors.

SONY FAILED TO MEET GAMING TARGETS

Once known solely for its electronic hardware, Sony had begun producing original content and hardware for many different sectors, primarily gaming. However, while the company projected sales of 25 million PlayStation 5 units for 2023, it sold only 16.4 million, falling well short of this estimate.

SALES HAVE DECLINED

As investors closely monitor the decline in the gaming sector, it is suggested that the major acquisitions made by Microsoft for its Xbox platform are creating pressure on the company. The most significant reasons for the decline in the gaming sector were cited as campaigns that significantly narrowed profit margins and a decrease in sales of gaming hardware, particularly the PlayStation.
