Sony's Walkman series is back in the spotlight with two new models aimed at the high-end portable music player market. According to information reported by The Walkman Blog, the company is working on new flagship devices called the NW-WM1ZM3 and NW-WM1AM3.
The new models are expected to appeal specifically to users who prioritize a high-resolution audio experience, namely the audiophile community. The most striking member of the series is the NW-WM1ZM3, which is stated to come with a gold-plated body over oxygen-free copper. A price tag of approximately 4,120 dollars is being discussed for this model.

DESIGN AND AUDIO HARDWARE
According to leaked information, the NW-WM1AM3 will be positioned with an aluminum body weighing 425 grams. The higher-end NW-WM1ZM3 will weigh 670 grams and use a gold-plated chassis over oxygen-free copper. It is stated that Sony's choice of this material aims to contribute to cleaner audio transmission by reducing interference.
It is stated that both models will feature the updated S-Master HX digital amplifier technology. Among the reported information is that the devices' electronic circuits will be supported by a passive cooling architecture to operate more efficiently.
On the connectivity side, the 3.5 mm headphone jack and 4.4 mm balanced output are expected to be retained. For wireless use, higher quality audio transmission via Bluetooth is targeted with Qualcomm aptX Adaptive and LC3 codec support.

The new Walkman models are expected to come with a 5.5-inch, 1080p resolution screen. It is stated that storage options will be offered as 128 GB and 256 GB, and that expandable storage will continue with microSD card support.
Regarding battery life, a usage time of up to 35 hours for local music files and up to 31 hours for online streaming services is projected. These values show that the devices maintain their claim of portability despite their high sound quality and hardware requirements.
