Sony to lay off 900 employees: Notification sent via email

Headquartered in the US state of California, Sony's video game and digital entertainment subsidiary, Sony Interactive Entertainment, shared an email sent to employees by CEO Jim Ryan regarding the layoffs.

"WE HAVE MADE AN INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT DECISION"

In the email, Ryan stated, "We have made the incredibly difficult decision to restructure our operations, which includes a reduction in our workforce that affects very talented individuals who have contributed to our success."

900 EMPLOYEES TO BE LAID OFF

Emphasizing that he wanted to be as transparent as possible on this matter, Ryan announced that they plan to reduce the headcount by approximately 900 people, or about 8 percent of the current workforce, and that employees across all Sony Interactive Entertainment regions—the Americas, Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Japan, and Asia-Pacific—as well as several PlayStation studios, will be affected by the layoffs.

Ryan noted that timelines and procedures for the layoffs will vary by region due to local laws and regulations, and outlined the plans within this scope.
