SpaceX challenges report on Starlink satellites
SpaceX has challenged a report claiming that its Starlink satellite system poses a "potential risk," calling for the report to be corrected.
American space shuttle and rocket manufacturer SpaceX has challenged a report submitted to Congress by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which alleged that the company's Starlink satellite system poses a "potential risk," and has called for the report to be corrected.
According to a report by CNN, SpaceX described the analysis compiled by "The Aerospace Corporation," which included concerns that Starlink satellite debris could lead to injuries and deaths, as "exaggerated and incorrect."
'MISREPRESENTED'
SpaceX argued that the report was "based on a flawed analysis that misrepresents" the risks associated with a Starlink satellite re-entering the Earth's atmosphere.
Criticizing The Aerospace Corporation for not consulting the company's own views and reports for its analysis, SpaceX called for the report to be corrected.
SpaceX claimed that its satellites are designed to completely disintegrate upon re-entry into the atmosphere at the end of their operational lives, and that no debris from the 325 Starlink satellites that have de-orbited since February 2020 has been found on the ground.
Meanwhile, the FAA stated that it is reviewing SpaceX's objections and is in communication with the space shuttle and rocket manufacturer to update the data from The Aerospace Corporation.
