SpaceX's Starship rocket reaches Earth orbit for the first time, deploys 26 Starlink V3 satellites

SpaceX's heavy-lift rocket system, Starship, reached Earth orbit for the first time during the company's latest test flight from its facilities in South Texas. Marketed as the most powerful rocket in aerospace history, the vehicle crossed this critical threshold despite a technical glitch during the flight.

It was reported that one of the six Raptor engines in the power system went offline shortly after the upper stage separated following the launch. However, it was stated that Starship's capacity to reach orbit was not affected and the vehicle continued its planned mission phase.

STARLINK V3 SATELLITES DEPLOYED INTO ORBIT

After reaching orbit, Starship deployed the 26 next-generation Starlink V3 satellites it was carrying into space. According to SpaceX's statement, contact has been established with all of the satellites. The new V3 satellites are expected to begin providing internet service to customers in the coming weeks.

The company states that the V3 satellites carried in a single Starship launch will offer network capacity equivalent to what the V2 mini versions launched by the Falcon 9 rocket provide in 20 flights. For this reason, the test is considered significant not only for the Starship program but also for the expansion of the Starlink network.

The initial mission plan envisioned the Starship upper stage completing 6 orbits around Earth over approximately 9 hours. However, once about 1.5 hours of the flight were completed, SpaceX decided to keep the vehicle in orbit for a shorter duration. The company announced that after an orbital flight of approximately 3 hours, Starship would be landed in a pre-determined safe zone in the Pacific Ocean.

It was reported that the landing also took place without any issues. Thus, the Starship test successfully combined the goals of reaching orbit, deploying satellites, and performing a controlled ocean landing in a single mission.

In Elon Musk's long-term plans, Starship is at the center of many projects, ranging from lunar missions to Mars objectives. NASA's lunar program and projects such as orbital data centers are also linked to the capabilities of this rocket system.

It is stated that SpaceX has reached an agreement to build a second spaceport in Louisiana to complement the Starbase facility in Texas in order to scale up Starship operations, with a 100 million dollar investment planned for this project. The company's goal is to make Starship a transport system capable of flying much more frequently in the future.
