Strict oversight for gambling content on YouTube

In a recent statement, YouTube announced that content directing users to unapproved gambling sites will be banned from the platform. This new regulation stands out as part of YouTube's efforts to further tighten its content moderation policies.

WHICH CONTENT WILL BE BLOCKED?

YouTube's new regulation bans all methods of redirection, including links, images, text, logos, and verbal statements that lead to unapproved gambling sites. This change is seen as a move to further tighten the platform's existing rules regarding redirection to external sites.

YouTube's definition of "unapproved gambling sites" is as follows:

Sites that do not comply with local regulatory requirements,

Platforms that have not been evaluated by YouTube or its parent company Google and whose reliability has not been verified,

Accordingly, content on YouTube that directs users to unlicensed or unverified gambling sites will be completely removed.

AGE RESTRICTIONS AND NEW RULES

YouTube spokesperson Boot Bullwinkle made the following statements regarding the new policy in an interview with CNN:

“We have strengthened our policies prohibiting content that directs users to unapproved gambling sites or apps. Additionally, we will impose age restrictions on content promoting online casinos.”

According to the new rules:

Users under the age of 18 and those who are not logged in will not be able to access content promoting online betting sites.

Videos containing casino advertisements will be restricted with an age limit.

This new regulation aims to prevent, in particular, young people from being exposed to online gambling content.
