Striking claims from the founder of ChatGPT! Will artificial intelligence accelerate time?

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman made remarkable statements about the future of artificial intelligence in a recent interview.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRESS WILL ACCELERATE 10-FOLD!

Altman explained the potential of superintelligence systems to accelerate scientific discoveries as follows:

Imagine that scientific progress in the world could increase three-fold, or even ten-fold. Discoveries that currently take 10 years could be completed in one year, and this speed could increase even further every year.

Stating that this technology will lead to revolutionary changes in the economy and society, Altman also emphasized that the fundamental values of being human will not be affected by this transformation:

Our world will undergo major changes, but the motivations and values that make us human will remain unchanged.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SUPERINTELLIGENCE AND AGI (ARTIFICIAL GENERAL INTELLIGENCE)?

In his statements, Altman also touched upon the differences between Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and superintelligence. While AGI refers to systems that can perform any intellectual task like a human, superintelligence goes beyond this capacity. Superintelligence is defined as having the potential to surpass human memory, processing speeds, and logical capabilities.

OpenAI is making significant progress toward this goal. The company recently announced innovations such as a more advanced model and a $200 ChatGPT Pro subscription service. Although Altman’s vision is promising, some experts point to the potential risks of these developments.

AI safety researchers warn that catastrophic scenarios could occur if necessary regulations are not put in place. One expert assessed the probability of such an event occurring at 99.9%. Sam Altman, on the other hand, argues that the integration of AGI into society can take place relatively smoothly.
