Surprise decision from Apple to the European Union: Web apps are being removed!

Apple has decided to end web app support for users in European Union countries and will implement this change with the stable release of iOS 17.4. This decision was made as part of Apple's compliance process with the European Union Digital Markets Act (DMA).

Apple stated that in order to comply with the DMA, a "completely new integration architecture" would need to be built for web apps. However, Apple officials, deeming this process impractical, stated that the termination of web app support was inevitable.

According to the company's statement, it is noted that apps added to the home screen are not widely adopted and that this change will affect a very small user base in iOS 17.4. However, Apple expressed that they are sorry for this situation on behalf of developers and web app users.
