Technology developed by Turkish scientists patented
The "Modified Narrowing Sluice (MDO)" enrichment device, developed by academics from the Department of Mining Engineering at Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University (MSKÜ) Faculty of Engineering, has been registered as a "utility model" by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.
According to the statement from MSKÜ, a research team led by Prof. Dr. Taki Güler from the Department of Mining Engineering, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ahmet Deniz Baş, Dr. Ercan Polat, and mining engineers Erdal Karadağ and Süleyman Yurtsever, developed the MDO enrichment device for the mining sector.
The device, registered as a "utility model" by the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office, is based on the principle of a narrowing sluice that operates according to density. During the development process, work conducted within the scope of 2 master's theses and 1 doctoral thesis was utilized, along with financial support provided by 3 MSKÜ-BAP projects.
This invention aims to provide a solution to the separation difficulties that occur because fine-sized minerals move at similar speeds in a pulp environment. The device, developed with magnetic field and vibration modifications, is expected to contribute to sustainable mining and help in the more efficient evaluation of underground resources.
'READY TO BE TESTED'
Designed on an industrial scale and having successfully passed laboratory tests, the MDO is now ready for testing. Standing out with its low energy consumption and cost, the device has the potential for use in the mining sector in areas such as metallic ores, industrial raw materials, and coal cleaning. Furthermore, it may contribute to the recovery of ore enrichment plant waste for the economy.
