Tesla has recalled 125 thousand vehicles due to a malfunction in the seat belt warning system.
In a statement made by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it was reported that the decision covers Model S vehicles produced between 2012-2024, Model X vehicles produced between 2015-2024, Model 3 vehicles produced between 2017-2023, and Model Y vehicles produced between 2020-2023.
The statement announced that a total of 125 thousand 227 vehicles will be recalled due to the fault in the seat belt warning system.
The statement noted that due to the malfunction, the warning light and audible alert may not activate when the driver does not fasten their seat belt, and therefore these vehicles do not comply with federal safety requirements.
The statement indicated that in a vehicle that does not warn the driver that the seat belt is not fastened, the risk of injury during a collision increases.
It was explained that an over-the-air software update will be provided to resolve the issue, and that the distribution of this update is expected to begin in June.
