Google is expanding the process of developing and using apps on the Play Store with a new feature focused on personal use. With the innovation announced by the company, users will be able to run Android apps they create with the help of artificial intelligence via Google AI Studio on their own phones without publishing them publicly.
One of the notable aspects of the new system is that users do not need to open a professional developer account for this. Apps created with a standard Google account will not appear in Play Store search results or public lists; they will reside in a personal space accessible only to the person who created the app.

A NEW PATH FOR PERSONAL USE
Google's goal is to make it easier to use small-scale apps prepared solely for personal needs on phones. For example, users will be able to create their own apps for expense tracking, family planning, small group organization, or daily workflows.
Recently, artificial intelligence tools have allowed users with limited software experience to design apps by giving commands in natural language. This method, which is based on the user describing the tool they want to make and asking the AI to generate code, is referred to in technology circles as “vibe coding.”
However, running Android apps prepared with AI on a real device could previously require additional technical steps. Google's new approach aims to simplify the process of installing and opening personal apps via the Play Store. Nevertheless, Google requires that these apps also comply with the Play Store's existing rules.
The company also plans to expand the scope of the feature in the coming months. Accordingly, users will be able to privately share the apps they create with family members and close friends. Thus, apps developed for a small group of friends, family, or a team will be able to be used by specific people without being opened to everyone on the Play Store.
For users who want to reach a wider audience, there will be an option to switch to a professional developer account. In this case, the apps will undergo the security reviews and quality conditions that Google applies to other publicly released apps.
NEW DISCOVERY TOOLS ARE ALSO COMING
In addition to personal app support, Google is also adding new AI-powered discovery tools to the Play Store. Among these, Game Finder will offer game recommendations more suitable for users' interests by taking into account their gaming habits and preferences.

Ask Play, the Play Store's AI-powered assistant, is also gaining the ability to compare similar apps and show key differences. This way, users will be able to have more context when choosing between apps for the same need.
Google is also working on innovations such as creating game collections, interacting with other players, and participating in 48-hour gaming competitions. While some features are being made available, others will be offered to more users later.

The new personal app feature began rolling out to users aged 18 and over in select markets, including the US, as of October 13, 2026. Google has not yet announced a definitive release date for Turkey.
