WhatsApp 'image and video' update is coming

WhatsApp is rolling out a new feature on iOS that allows users to share their photos and videos as documents to preserve their original quality.

As spotted by WABetaInfo, it is stated that with WhatsApp's 23.24.73 update on iOS, users will be able to easily send media (images or videos) in original quality as a file.

COUNTDOWN HAS BEGUN FOR 'IOS'

This feature was tested by a small group of users in November, but it is now being released for all iOS users. The changelog states that this feature will be rolled out "in the coming weeks," so it may take some time to appear on your device, but once it does, you can access it by tapping the "+" sign during a chat, selecting "Document," and then "Choose Photo or Video." There is a 2 GB limit for files that can be sent using this feature.

EASY METHOD DEVELOPED FOR THE FEATURE

WhatsApp has also been testing the same feature for Android users since at least September of this year, which suggests that a stable version for Android devices is not far off. Previously, to send full-resolution photos and videos via WhatsApp, it was necessary to manually change the file extension to PDF or DOC. Eliminating this extra work makes things significantly easier for users and serves as an answer to those who want more than the HD sharing feature that WhatsApp introduced this summer.
