On the other hand, although the USA does not have an official language at the federal level, 50 states individually recognize English as their official language. English is spoken in 32 of these states and in all 5 U.S. territories.

In recent years, there has been an acceleration in efforts to make English the official language of the USA. In 2023, Republican Senators JD Vance from Ohio and Kevin Cramer from North Dakota introduced a bill to declare English as the official language.

According to the latest census data in the USA, 78.3 percent of the country speaks English at home. The second most spoken language in the USA is Spanish. 61 percent of Spanish speakers also speak English very well.

Research shows that languages are constantly evolving every day. According to researchers, some regional accents in the USA are disappearing. One of these is the classic Southern accent.
