Tim Berners-Lee, while working at the CERN laboratories in 1989, developed the HTML markup language and established the information-sharing system defined as the “World Wide Web.”
At the same time, he also developed the first web browser software. Initially designed and developed to meet the demand for automated information sharing among scientists at universities and institutes worldwide, the world's first website was made available to the public by CERN on April 30, 1993.
According to the report in Sözcü, on this special anniversary, a page from the first draft Tim Berners-Lee presented to CERN was shared, commemorating the event with the statement: “On April 30, 1993, CERN made the World Wide Web public domain and later made it available under an open license, enabling the development of the Web.”
