YouTube’s supervised child accounts are now available in Turkey

YouTube has launched new supervision tools for children's use of the platform in Turkey. The system, introduced as "Supervised Child Accounts," gives parents the ability to manage their children's YouTube experience based on age and content type.

The feature, which began rolling out gradually across the country as of July 2, will work with child-specific accounts created via the YouTube app or Google Family Link. The system is designed for children between the ages of 9 and 18. For children aged 8 and under, YouTube Kids continues to be offered as a separate option.

WHICH CONTROLS WILL PARENTS BE ABLE TO USE?

Under the new system, parents will be able to determine the content their children can access based on age groups. Tools will also be provided to limit or completely turn off Shorts usage, access advanced control options, and manage platform usage more closely.

Content creation and commenting features will be disabled for users under 18 included in Supervised Child Accounts. Personalized ads will not be shown on these accounts; additionally, break reminders will be sent to children.

Parents will be able to choose between three different levels for content access. The "Explore 9+ years" option focuses on content such as educational videos, tutorials, crafts, and dance. In the "Explore more 13+ years" level, gaming videos and live streams can also be included in addition to this content. The "Most of YouTube" option provides access to the vast majority of videos on the platform, excluding content rated for ages 18 and up.

The feature can be accessed on mobile after logging into the YouTube app by going to the "You" section in the top right corner, and then through the Family Center in Settings. On desktop, it can be accessed by entering the Settings menu via the profile photo and using the "Manage child profiles and features for teens" option in the Family Center section.
