In Group B of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Qatar and Switzerland faced off at the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Monterrey, Mexico.
Switzerland was awarded a penalty in the 14th minute of the match, which was officiated by Honduran referee Said Martinez.
Breel Embolo stepped up to the spot in the 17th minute and sent the ball into the net, giving Switzerland a 1-0 lead. With no further goals in the first half, Switzerland headed to the locker room with a 1-0 advantage.
Although Switzerland displayed a dominant performance in the second half, Qatar leveled the score at 1-1 with a goal from Boualem Khoukhi in the 90+4th minute.
This goal also marked the final score of the match. In the other group match played, Canada and Bosnia and Herzegovina had also drawn 1-1.
